the Reading Centre
New Denver has a wonderful reading centre
located in the village's heritage building Knox Hall.
just walk around to the back
and down the steps. They have a surprisingly good collection for such a small venue AND they have library loan access.
If you look carefully you can make out "our library" on the door grill. Cool.

Roses and Lupines
June is a month for roses and lupines in New Denver. This fragrant rose bush is on my way as I walk the dog every morning. The smell going by it is heavenly (no wonder so many people claim that they smell roses when the see a Madonna apparition).
Lupines are a wild mountain flower that grows in abundance here. I brought fistfuls home to place in vases. They lack a scent but they sure are pretty. I was surprised to see pink lupines too.

Canada Day
In order to celebrate Canada Day in a small Canadian town (Silverton) you need a mountie in a scarlet tunic to lead the parade...
lots of kids
Mayors (Bunka and Provan) serving as color guards
homegrown floats
a fancy vintage car or two
a proud display of emergency vehicles
and of course, a pipe band.
Be sure to wear proper attire!

The school
I live across from the Lucerne School in New Denver where grades 1-12 are taught. There are only about 100 students.
The kids are very lucky that their parents and community are very involved with their upbringing. This is the beautiful garden that is on the school grounds.
there is a greenhouse on the school property too.
